Leeds United manager Neil Warnock was surprised by the defensive display shown by his new side in the game at Portsmouth on Saturday.

Warnock has been critical of the sides defence since arriving at the club last weekend.

Warnock was impressed and surprised by the players display in defence. Speaking on Yorkshire Radio, Warnock said,“The lads have surprised me today. I will take my hat off to them.

“I didn`t think we could defend as well as that, a clean sheet at Portsmouth. When I watched the videos, I have to admit I did not think we would have many 0-0.”

Leeds had conceded 48 goals already this season before keeping only their seventh clean sheet of the season at Portsmouth.

It was also the first time Leeds have been involved in a goalless draw, since drawing with Reading last April, 41 games ago.
Leeds managed the clean sheet despite having to rejig in defence as early as the 11th minute.

Alex Bruce was forced off with a hamstring injury, with Leigh Bromby making his first appearance since the 1-0 win at Leicester City in November.
