Leeds United manager Neil Warnock says he considered a move for Sheffield United midfielder Nick Montgomery ahead of the loan transfer window closing on Thursday.
Montgomery signed for today`s opponents Millwall at the start of last week and could line up against Leeds at the New Den today.
The 30 year old has spent his whole career with the Bramall Lane club having come through the clubs youth system and he spent seven years playing for Warnock during their time together at the blades.
Speaking at his pre match press conference ahead of the game with Millwall, Warnock said, “Millwall have taken Monty from Sheffield United on loan, I thought of taking him on loan but he had already gone to Millwall.
“I would have liked him but I thought Clayton and Brown were a bit of a surprise to me really. I thought they had done really well up until the other night against Forest.
“And even the other night, I thought Brown was our best player. I didn`t really want to disturb things.”
Montgomery has long been linked with a move to Leeds, with former boss Simon Grayson trying and failing to land the midfielder.
The combative midfielder came close to signing for Leeds in the summer of 2010 before deciding on a new three-year deal with Sheffield United.
He made his debut for Millwall in the midweek win at Doncaster Rovers as a second half substitute.
