Leeds United boss Neil Warnock must prepare for next season without defender Leigh Bromby after he suffered a serious injury in the final away game of the season at Cardiff City on Saturday.

Bromby went down under no challenge just past the half hour and needed Oxygen, as he was stretchered from the field.

Boss Warnock confirmed after the game in his interview with Yorkshire Radio that Bromby will be sidelined for a very long time after snapping his patella tendon. “Leigh has snapped his patella tendon and it is a very serious injury. He is unlucky because he has done so well to get back into the side and played well in the last few games.

It is one of the problems of not playing many games this season. All the lads who have been out of the side before I came here all have injuries.

“I think we can forget about Leigh for a while. It will be a long time before he comes back but I am sure he has the guts and determination it is just so disappointing for him when he has managed to get back into the squad.”

Bromby had worked himself back into reckoning at Elland Road since the arrival of Warnock in February.

The defender had made six appearances since Warnock`s arrival having only made six appearances in the previous six months of the season under former boss Simon Grayson.

Bromby still has a year remaining on his contract at Elland Road, although it looks unlikely that he will return before the closing months of the season at the earliest.
