Bolton Wanderers boss Owen Coyle believes it wouldn`t have been a flattering scoreline had Bolton led by four goals at one stage of the game.
Bolton and Leeds shared the points in a 2-2 draw at the Reebok. The home side started much the better and as well as an opener from Kevin Davies, they had plenty of chances to score in a first half hour dominated by the home side.
Chris Eagles hit a post and Benik Afobe somehow managed to shoot wide when in a great position and Coyle says a four goal lead would not have been an injustice. Speaking on the Bolton Wanderers official website, Coyle said, “If we`d have gone four goals up at one point I don`t think it would have been an injustice. We passed and moved the ball around well and the fans were fantastic in really getting behind the team.
“In the second half things got a little difficult, with the award of a non-penalty after we had a stonewaller turned down in the second half when Keith Andrews was fouled.”
Leeds grew into the game and Sam Byram had already give the home side a warning when he shot just wide, minutes before bringing Leeds level on the stroke of half time.
Bolton would have gone in at half time wondering how they weren`t well clear, let alone on level terms.
Leeds made them pay further for their missed chances at the start of the second half when Luciano Becchio scored from the penalty spot.
Chris Eagles had dominated in the first half for the home side but he was kept much quieter in the second half and Leeds looked well set for another crucial three points.
Once again though, quality from the bench proved crucial. Martin Petrov came on with thirty minutes remaining for the home side and his quality proved crucial for the home side.
Petrov crossed for Davies to power home his second header of the evening and Coyle feels Leeds will wonder how they managed to clinch a point, although he admits, El Hadji Diouf almost won it for Leeds with almost the last kick of the game when his shot hit the crossbar. “Leeds United will leave tonight wondering how they got a point. There`s no doubt that anyone watching that game will have realised how big the gulf was between the two teams.
“Some of our play was outstanding and we probably could have secured the win, accepting that El-Hadji Diouf had a chance in the last minute,” added Coyle.
Coyle might just be beginning to feel the pressure. Bolton, who were relegated from the Premier League at the end of last season are now in 17th place with eleven points from their first nine games.
