Leeds United under-18`s wrapped up the league with an emphatic 7-2 win at Nottingham Forest on Saturday morning.

Leeds went into the game knowing a win would wrap up the league title with three games still to play and they made no mistake.

Three of the players rewarded with professional contracts this month did most of the damage.

Lewis Walters (3), Luke Parkin and Captain Alex Mowatt all on target in the win.

Leeds never looked back after Luke Parkin gave Leeds a 15th minute lead and Alex Mowatt doubled the lead halfway through the half.

Forest pulled a goal back but Leeds restored their two-goal lead before half time when Kalvin Phillips netted.

The game was over as a contest when Walters scored his first goal of the game.

Forest reduced the arrears to two goals but three goals in the final thirty minutes put the seal on an emphatic win.

Walters scored his second on the hour and Smith Tiesse made it six.

Walters completed his hat trick to put the seal on a fine team display, his 14th goal in 17 appearances for the under-18 side this season.

Richard Naylor`s young side have been in control of the Development League 2 (North) all season, losing just three times, the win at Forest bringing to an end a run of two straight defeats.

It has been a great season and they were unlucky losers at Liverpool in the FA Youth Cup fifth round when they went down to a 3-1 defeat despite being the better side for much of the game.

The future is looking very bright under the stewardship of Neil Redfearn and Richard Naylor. Leeds have already given professional contracts to all five second year scholars and the club have just given scholarships to seven youngsters from the clubs academy.

One of those, Lewis Cook is currently away representing the England under-16 side in an 8-team tournament in France.

They will all be hoping to follow in the footsteps of youngsters like Tom Lees and Sam Byram who have shown in the past few seasons that you can make the step up to first team football at Elland Road.
