On loan Leeds United midfielder Michael Tonge says he is desperate to return to Elland Road after coming to the end of his loan spell at the club.
Tonge completed his 93-day loan from Premier League side Stoke City on Saturday in the 2-1 win over Middlesbrough and he says he is gutted to be out of at least the next two games.
Speaking on LUTV, Tonge said, “I am desperate to come back and carry on playing, so fingers crossed.
“My loan is now finished and I am gutted. I cannot play until January even if something is sorted out.”
Tonge has been an ever-present for Leeds since signing ahead of the game at Cardiff City in mid-September.
The former Sheffield United midfielder had been in the wilderness for the past four seasons after leaving the blades to sign for Stoke in a £2 million move.
He has made just 18 appearances for Stoke since arriving at the Britannia Stadium in the summer of 2008 and he has spent time out on loan at Preston North End, Derby County and Barnsley.
Tonge has enjoyed his run of games, that has seen him make 22 appearances for Leeds and he admits he wants to carry on playing. “I am disappointed I will miss the next few games because when you are on a roll you want to keep playing.
“Some of the lads are saying it will be a good Christmas because I will miss a couple of games, but it isn`t for me. Out of anyone this season, I just want to keep playing because I have missed a couple of years.
“It would have been great for me to keep playing but it is just the way it works with the 93 day loan,” continued Tonge.
Leeds boss Neil Warnock has expressed his desire to sort out a deal with Stoke City for the services of Tonge when the January transfer window opens on January 1st.
If a deal can be sorted, Tonge could return to the Leeds side for the home game with Bolton Wanderers on New Years Day.
