Leeds United boss Simon Grayson says injured striker Davide Somma is making good progress from the cruciate knee ligament injury he sustained during pre season.

Somma required surgery after suffering the injury in a behind closed doors friendly at the start of pre season.

The South African international saw his specialist last week and Grayson said the surgeon was happy with the striker`s progress although he is still a long way from a return to football.

Speaking in the Yorkshire Evening Post, Grayson said, “He went to see the specialist last week who was very pleased with the way things are coming on.
“He`s still looking at a timespan of months rather than weeks but the surgeon was really happy with how it was all healing and progressing.”

Somma scored twelve goals last season in his debut season despite spending most of the season on the substitute`s bench.

Leeds have had a number of injuries in attack this season with Luciano Becchio and Billy Paynter both missing.

The duo are now back to full fitness with Becchio making his first appearance since April in yesterday`s win over Crystal Palace. He marked his come back with the equalising goal and went off to celebrate with the physio.

Leeds have also bolstered their attacking options with the signing of Andy Keogh and Mikael Forssell.

Keogh is on loan from Wolves until the New Year and Forssell signed a deal last week, keeping him at Elland Road until the end of the season after a successful trial period.
