LUFC Somma going nowhere this season

Leeds boss Simon Grayson has ruled out Davide Somma going out on loan again in the coming season after two spells away from Elland Road last season.

Grayson speaking on the official website said, “He got goals last season and we know we have a player there. He`ll be pushing players, and he won`t be going back out on loan anywhere.”

Somma had a brief spell at Chesterfield making three appearances for the Spireites in November, before a much more productive spell at Lincoln City towards the end of the season.

The 25-year-old scored nine goals in fourteen appearances for the Imps, helping them pull away from the relegation zone.

His form at Lincoln showed Grayson enough to offer him a new one year contract at Elland Road.

Grayson`s news will come as a blow to Lincoln who had shown an interest in taking the South African back to Sincil Bank.

Somma played 45 minutes of Leeds opening pre season friendly in Slovakia on Tuesday night and looked sharp in the Leeds attack.

He was unlucky to see a goal ruled out for offside after what looked a well-timed run and also felt he should have won a penalty after a strong run at the Ruzomberok defence saw him brought down inside the box.

Somma will be hoping to impress during pre season as he faces strong competition for a place in the Leeds attack once the season starts.

Luciano Becchio, Mike Grella, Billy Paynter and Max Gradel will all be vying for the striker positions next season.

The bad news for both Somma and Gradel is they will start the new season on the sidelines after both receiving red cards on the final day of the season.

Somma is serving a three game ban whilst Gradel picked up a four game ban.
