Leeds United will be hoping that lightening strikes twice after the fixtures threw up a number of similarities to the last time they won promotion from the Second Division.
Leeds last won promotion from the Second Division of English football during the 1989/90 season when they went up as champions under Howard Wilkinson.
Two players who were at the club in 1989/90 are now members of the management team. Manager Simon Grayson failed to break into the Leeds side that season but his assistant Glynn Snodin was a regular in the first team that won promotion.
Leeds starts this season away from home before a home game with Middlesbrough, the same as they did during the promotion season.
Ipswich Town will once again be their fifth league fixture of the season.
Leicester away is once again in the early weeks of November.
Barnsley away is again the last game of the year.
The first game of the New Year is once again against Lancashire opposition; in 1990, we entertained Oldham Athletic.
Scarily we play West Ham United and Leicester City at home on exactly the same dates as in 1990.
The last home game of the season will once again be against Leicester City.
Nobody will ever forget that dramatic left foot goal by Gordon Strachan that flew into the net in front of the South Stand. If ever I see footage of that goal the commentary from Yorkshire TV`s John Helm still make the hairs on the back of my neck stand on end, “Have you ever seen a better goal? And have you ever seen one better timed?,” he screamed.
If people are superstitious like me then the omens are looking good.
