Swindon Town have completed the signing of former Leeds defender Alan Sheehan

Sheehan was released from his contract at Elland Road today to enable him to sign for the Wiltshire club where he spent a time on loan last season. He made 26 appearances for the robins and helped the side reach the League One Play off final.

The Republic of Ireland international spent two years at Elland Road but struggled to hold down a first team place.

After returning to Elland Road at the end of last season, Leeds boss Simon Grayson told him that he did not feature in his plans at the club and to actively look for a new club during the summer months.

Sheehan initially joined Leeds on loan in January 2008 and helping the club to the play off final before making the move permanent during the summer.

The defender has signed a one year deal and he will now join up with three former Leeds teammates, with David Lucas, Jonathan Douglas and David Prutton already at the County Ground.
