After looking certainties for promotion at the turn of the year, Leeds went into April nervously looking over their shoulder as the play offs were beginning to look a distinct possibility.

Leeds start the month with a huge six pointer at Elland Road against Swindon Town.

There is an impeccably observed minute`s silence prior to kick off in remembrance of Christopher Loftus and Kevin Speight who had died ten years ago in Turkey whilst following the club they loved.

After a decent first half-hour, Leeds capitulate and lose 3-0 for the second time this season against Swindon.

The result sees Leeds drop down to fourth and out of the automatic promotion spots for the first time since August.

Leeds are quickly back in action at Yeovil on Easter Monday and produce a much better performance and a much needed three points.

Captain Richard Naylor scores both goals in a 2-1 win.

Jason Crowe is ruled out for the remainder of the season after undergoing an ankle operation.

Leeds make it back to back victories for the first time in 2010 with a 2-0 home win over Southend United.

Late goals from Max Gradel and Luciano Becchio ensure the points stay at Elland Road.

After a poor run of form leading goalscorer Jermaine Beckford is dropped to the bench for the trip to Carlisle.

Boss Simon Grayson`s decision to drop the striker is merited when two goals from Luciano Becchio and one from Max Gradel earn Leeds a 3-1 victory.

With other results going their way Leeds are back in the top two with only four games remaining.

On the back of three wins in a row and back into the top two, Leeds go to Gillingham full of confidence.

An horrendous defensive display in the first half hour sees Leeds go three goals down against a side fighting relegation.

Goals from Becchio and Beckford give Leeds a chance but it`s not enough as Leeds go down 3-2.

Once again, Leeds are lucky with other results and stay in the top two despite the defeat.

Leeds return to winning ways the following weekend in an extraordinary match at Elland Road. Opponents MK Dons finish the game with only eight men as Leeds record a 4-1 victory.

Sanchez Watt makes his first start for Leeds and is hugely involved in the first two goals that are scored by Becchio and Gradel.

Jermaine Beckford comes off the bench and scores twice to reach the 30-goal mark for the second season in a row.

The win ensures that Leeds destiny is still in their own hands with only two games remaining of the season.

Leeds duo Robert Snodgrass and Patrick Kisnorbo are included in the PFA League One team of the year.

The reserve side clinch the title for the second season in a row with a 3-0 win over Grimsby Town.

Next week we will be looking back at May and the final two games of the season, when fans nerves are tested to the limit on a nerve jangling final day of the season.
