Leeds United goalkeeper Kasper Schmeichel is hoping that his form between the sticks will earn him his first senior call up to the Denmark national squad.

Schmeichel is back to the form that he showed at the start of the season, since returning from a foot injury that forced him to miss eight games between September and October.

Since his return in the 4-0 home defeat against Cardiff, Leeds have put together their best run of the season and are currently unbeaten in nine games with Schmeichel only missing the Coventry game due to his partner giving birth to their first child.

Schmeichel is now hoping that his own form and the form of Leeds United will get him noticed by Danish coach Martin Olsen.

Speaking on the official website, Schmeichel said, “I feel I`m definitely ready. I`m regularly playing in a good league for a great team. I can`t see why being called up to see what I can do isn`t a possibility.”

Schmeichel as already won international recognition at under 19, 20 and 21 levels.

Having lived in England for the vast majority of his life, the English FA looked into the possibility of him representing England only for Schmeichel to say that he was only ever wanting to represent Denmark.

Denmark have a home friendly arranged for February 9th, ironically against England so it could be the ideal opportunity for Schmeichel to earn his first call up.

34-year-old Thomas Sorensen is the current Denmark number one and is closing in one his one hundredth appearance for his country having made ninety-two appearances so far.
