Leeds United forward Kemar Roofe says he is enjoying his role as they main striker.

Roofe netted his tenth goal of the season in the win at Burton Albion on Boxing Day and his fourth goal of the month since being pushed into an attacking role with Caleb Ekuban and Pierre-Michel Lasogga both injured.

The 24-year-old has mainly played out wide since arriving at the club in a £3m deal from Oxford United in the summer of 2016, after scoring 26 goals for the U`s as a striker and helping them win promotion from League Two.

Playing out wide last season, he had to wait until December to net his first Leeds goal and he managed just three goals in 49 appearances with Chris Wood the main striker.

Roofe has once again found himself playing on the wing this season but nine of his ten goals for Leeds have come in just eight appearances when he has played as the main striker and Roofe says he is enjoying the role when given the opportunity.

“I am enjoying it massively and I feel I am more in the game,” Roofe told Sky Sports after the game at Burton.

“When I am getting the service, I enjoy it.”

Roofe is expected to start in attack once again when Leeds travel to Birmingham City on Saturday and he has retained his place in attack despite the recent return to full fitness of Pierre-Michel Lasogga.
