Leeds United went into March in the Play off positions despite another inconsistent month in February which reached an all time low with the dismal performance at Hereford United.
Leeds started the month on front of the live Sky TV cameras in a Monday night clash at Oldham Athletic.
Despite a much improved away performance they had to settle for a draw. Lee Hughes gave the Latics the lead shortly after half time, Luciano Becchio quickly equalised for the whites and despite pressurising the Oldham goal had to settle for a point.
They were on their travels again on the Saturday, this time at Bristol Rovers.
The Pirates took the lead when Jeff Hughes gave Ankergren no chance after slack Leeds defending.
Leeds had turned the game around by the hour, firstly Becchio scored and then a sweetly struck free kick by Robert Snodgrass gave Leeds the lead.
The Whites thought they had secured all three points until substitute Joe Kuffour waltzed through the Leeds defence before blasting past Ankergren in the final minute.
After another disappointing away result Leeds had once again slipped out of the Play off positions.
At Elland Road Leeds were a completely different outfit, two home wins in the space of five days made it seven wins in a row at home.
First they put four past Yeovil with Jermaine Beckford scoring his third hat trick of the season and a good strike from Neil Kilkenny.
In the following game Leeds left it late before Jermaine Beckford secured all three points for the Whites.
Beckford was however to tarnish his performance in the last minute when he was sent off for two bookable offences, the second booking was for petulance in the dying seconds.
This infuriated the fans who were now going to have to do without their leading goalscorer again, so soon after his three match ban that he incurred for the incident against Millwall.
Next time out Leeds finally won on their travels for the first time since January but almost threw away a three goal lead against ten men at Crewe.
Crewe were reduced to ten men inside the first twenty minutes when Billy Jones was sent off for two bookable offences.
Leeds took advantage of the extra man and three goals in the space of five minutes around the half hour by Kilkenny, Becchio and Snodgrass looked like earning Leeds a comfortable victory.
Leeds had an anxious last twenty minutes when first Julien Baudet and then Tom Pope scored for Crewe, Leeds however managed to hold on to make it three wins in a row.
The last game of the month saw promotion chasing MK Dons visit Elland Road and once again Leeds home form continued as they made it eight wins at home in a row.
Beckford returned from suspension to score a goal in each half to move Leeds to within one point of MK Dons.
Leeds had climbed to fifth in the table during the month which had seen them remain unbeaten, drawing two and winning their last four games in a row.
They now had a five point cushion over seventh place Tranmere Rovers.
The Whites felt that they could still be involved in the mix for automatic promotion with them now being ten points behind second placed Peterborough United with a game in hand.
With games running out fast, could Leeds make a final push through April and close the gap on second place?
