Leeds United will hope to end the year with a victory at Barnsley today and we look at their record on December 31st over the years.

The whites have a good record over the years, winning eight of the thirteen games played on this day as well as one draw and four defeats.

Their first ever game on December 31st came against Rotherham United in a Second Division clash in 1921 when Yorkshire neighbours Rotherham United won 2-0 at Elland Road.

It was six years before Leeds played again on New Year`s Eve. This time they enjoyed a 3-0 win over South Shields at Elland Road thanks to goals from Charlie Keetley, Bobby Turnbull and Russell Wainscoat.

Their biggest win came during the 1983/84 season, when they beat Middlesbrough 4-1 at Elland Road with Tommy Wright, Scott Sellars and two goals from George McCluskey on target for Leeds.

Leeds suffered their heaviest defeat in 1932 when they were beaten 5-1 at Derby County with Charlie Keetley again on target for Leeds.

The last time Leeds United played on this day, two goals from Jonathan Douglas secured a 2-0 home win over Hull City in 2005.
