Leeds United defender Ben Parker has been hit by the news that he could be sidelined for the early months of the new season.

The news is the latest blow for Parker who spent most of last season on the treatment table.

Parker suffered a calf injury in the home game against MK Dons towards the end of April and the prognosis is worse than first thought.

Leeds boss Simon Grayson, speaking in the YEP said, ‘He’s got quite a bad tear in that area and he’s looking at a few months out.

‘I don’t like to put timescales on injuries because some can heal quickly and others can take longer but realistically he’s going to miss
quite a lot of pre-season.’

Parker made just four appearances last season for the club after a succession of injuries kept him on the sidelines.

The 22 year old became Grayson`s number one choice in the left back position after the bosses arrival in December 2008 and looked to be a key part of the managers plans for last season.

He suffered his first injury in the opening game of the season when he was replaced within thirty minutes with a hamstring strain against Exeter City.

Parker returned to training in September but was then hit with a further injury to his hip which required surgery and kept him out well into the New Year.

The former Leeds Academy player, worked hard to regain full fitness and a few minor setbacks kept him out of the side until the run in to the season.

He made his first start against MK Dons in the penultimate home game of the season; he was enjoying a successful comeback when his latest injury forced him off the pitch around the hour mark.

Parker was distraught at the latest setback and left the field in tears.

Grayson continued, when he said, ‘It’s hard for him to take and the only thing he can do is keep his head down and start working his way back again.”

Parker has made 47 appearances for the club since making his debut during the 2007/08 season.
