Leeds United defender Ben Parker is looking to put two years of injury nightmares behind him after coming through pre season unscathed.

The 23 year old has undergone seven operations in the past two seasons since suffering a hamstring injury against Exeter City on the opening day of the 2009/10 season.

Parker is now looking forward to the new championship season after coming through pre season relatively unscathed apart from taking a knock at Sheffield Wednesday.

Speaking on Yorkshire Radio, Parker said, I`m feeling really good, I`m surprised how well I have got through pre season, I thought It would be a struggle, which at times it has been.
“I have felt little niggles, which I thought I would do with lack of fitness going into pre season.
“I`ve managed to get through pre season and come out the other end feeling fit and feeling strong it`s been a real big benefit to me.”

The left back is now hoping to push himself into the plans of manager Simon Grayson. Parker is hoping to get the nod for Saturday`s opener at Southampton and become the recognised left back at the club, “All I can focus on is doing well this week in training. Work hard and hopefully if he does give me that chance on Saturday then it`s my shirt to lose and I`ll be doing my best to keep it,” he continued.

Parker has started just five games in the past two seasons, his last coming in the 3-1 home defeat to Arsenal in the FA Cup in January.
