Peterborough United player Lee Tomlin has apologised to his club following his reckless tackle on Leeds United striker Andy Keogh in the game at London Road on Saturday.
Tomlin was shown a straight red card by referee Keith Stroud for the tackle from behind in the 37th minute of the game.
Speaking on the Peterborough United official website, Tomlin said, “I apologised to my team-mates following the final whistle on Saturday and I would like to take this opportunity to apologise to the supporters, management and board for the tackle that led to my dismissal on Saturday against Leeds United.
“I was frustrated that the referee would not allow George Boyd back onto the pitch and that frustration led to me making the tackle. I was trying to win the ball, but I mis-timed the tackle and I accept the ban that I will be given.”
Tomlin is expected to receive a three-match suspension from the FA and he is to receive a club fine for the dismissal that came with the game evenly poised at 1-1.
Leeds went on to win the game 3-2 thanks to a goal deep into time added on for stoppages by Darren O`Dea.
