According to reports Leeds United could be set to loan a player out whilst a former favourite is once again being linked with a return to Elland Road.

Striker Billy Paynter is reportedly on the verge of joining South Coast club Brighton and Hove Albion on loan until the New Year.

Paynter has struggled at Elland Road since arriving from Swindon Town in the summer of 2010.

The 27 year old has netted just once in twenty-four appearances and he has made just one substitutes appearance this season in the opening day defeat at Southampton.

Paynter almost joined the Seagulls on the final day of the transfer window in August but the two clubs could not agree on a fee for the player.

Coming into Elland Road is the rumour that does not seem to want to go away.

Alan Smith is once again rumoured to be on the verge of a return on loan from Newcastle United, seven years since he departed.

The 30 year old is out of contract at Newcastle in the summer and he has already been told that he is free to look for another club.

The one obstacle could be the excessive wage demands of Smith who is on a reported £60,000 a week with the North East club.
