A look back at what happened on this day May 20th in the history of Leeds United.
Leeds United have never played a competitive game on May 20th in their history so we look at what was happening at Elland Road in recent history.
Leeds are preparing for the Championship play-off final in Cardiff against Watford and they make the trip down to South Wales ahead of the game in 24-hour`s time.
With Leeds still in a huge financial mess, Sheikh Samir Mirdad, leader of a Dubai-based corporation has expressed an interest to purchase Leeds United.
The chairman of the Linx Group of Companies in Dubai wants to talk to Ken Bates regarding a possible takeover. As it stands, provided that the CVA agreement is successfull Bates will regain control of the club, with Uncle Ken no doubt looking to make a personal profit.
Sheikh Mirdad told the Daily Star Sunday: ‘Leeds United is a prestigious club that has, in the recent past, suffered setbacks. My vision is to bring the club back to its former glory.
‘The club has a huge fanbase and because of the history and the desire of the people of Leeds to see Leeds United back in top-flight footbal we think this may be the ideal challenge for us.`
Sadly, nothing ever materialised.
Leeds United owe fellow Championship club Wolverhampton Wanderers £37,000 as part of the loan deal for striker Jemal Johnson.
Leeds are on the verge of agreeing a deal to bring Swansea City winger Andy Robinson from Swansea City.
Leeds United first team coach Glynn Snodin set Leeds the target of automatic promotion next season after losing out in the play-off semi-final to Millwall.
Snodin speaking in the YEP said Snodin said: ‘You can’t take anything away from the teams who’ve made it, but the line-up on Sunday is why we can’t afford to think about the play-offs next season.`
The former Leeds defender joined up with his ex team mate Simon Grayson in February and the club enjoyed a terrific end to the season losing only one of their final fourteen League games.
Exactly two years after signing for Leeds United, midfielder Andy Robinson has been told he can leave on a free transfer according to his agent Neil Sang.
Speaking in the YEP, Sang said, ‘The club told me they won’t be looking for a fee so over the next couple of weeks I’ll be hammering away, looking for options for Andy.
‘I’ve always thought of him as a player with massive amounts of talent and it’s unfortunate that it hasn’t worked out for him at Leeds. But it’s only business, nothing personal.’
The former Swansea winger made just six substitute appearance during this season and spent the final few month`s on loan at Tranmere Rovers.
