A look back at what happened on this day June 24th in the recent history of Leeds United.
Leeds have never played a game on this day in their history, so today we look back in the Vital Leeds archives of the last few years to see what was being reported.
Leeds United manager Dennis Wise has said that he will be sending members of the 1st team squad boxing after being invited by the management team behind a brand new sports facility in the city.
Wise, who spoke to the official Leeds United website as he represented the club at the launch of the Hunslet Boys Club in the South of Leeds, funded by a massive £420,000 cash donation from Barclays bank was quick to talk about the good old days, and the offer he had received of letting some of his players take up boxing.
‘I was talking to some people down here and they’ve invited us down to do some boxing,’
I’ve done it before with some players at Millwall so we’ll probably do it.’
So had some of your clubs supporters before, during and after matches Wisey!!!
‘We didn’t have this when I was a kid – we used to go out on the fields and put jumpers out.’
League 2 strugglers Grimsby Town are desperate to sign Leeds United midfielder Peter Sweeney according to their official website.
Sweeney played 8 games last season on loan at the league 2 club and played a crucial part in keeping them in the football league.
Grimsby boss Mike Newell told the clubs official website ”I know he enjoyed his time here. It was a successful time. If you look at the rest
of the season, those last 12 or so games were our most successful’
Leeds boss Simon Grayson has expressed his desire in the past to get rid of the ‘dead-wood’ in the club and maybe this deal could see the departure of one of those players who are not part of Grayson`s plans for the future.
Leeds United have made their first signing of the summer, bringing in goalkeeper Paul Rachubka.
Rachubka was released by Blackpool at the end of last season and joins up with his former manager Simon Grayson with whom he enjoyed promotion from League One with Blackpool.
The 30 year old has signed a two-year deal at Elland Road and he is the first goalkeeper to sign for the club after the release of Shane Higgs and the proposed sale of Kasper Schmeichel.
Leeds trip to Brighton and Hove Albion has been moved to Friday 23rd September on Police advice.
The game will now kick off at 7.45pm on Friday and means a long trek for the Leeds fans.
It will be Leeds first visit to Brighton`s new Amex Stadium.
It is the third game to be moved already since the fixtures came out a week ago.
