Leeds United chief executive Shaun Harvey was quick to deny rumours that the club would not be offering striker Luciano Becchio a new contract when his current deal runs out.
Becchio joined Leeds in the summer of 2008 after a successful trial with the club and signed a three-year deal that was due to run out at the end of the season.
Speaking on the official website, Harvey said, ‘The story is completely untrue. We`re committed to keeping him at Elland Road.’ (Becchio signed a new three and a half year deal in December)
New signing Billy Paynter is given the number 9 shirt after arriving from Swindon Town. (Paynter scored just one goal in his first season at Elland Road.)
Robert Snodgrass was to undergo scans on his knee after suffering an injury in Norway.
The midfielder, who had enjoyed a good game, was the victim of a hefty challenge that saw him stretchered from the field and needing to leave the ground on crutches. (He was sidelined until September)
A Leeds United XI were beaten 2-1 at Bradford Park Avenue with Andy Lonergan making his debut in a Leeds shirt.
Transfer listed Mike Grella was also included as well as Hungarian international trialist Boldiszar Bodor.
Despite the defeat, Lonergan made a number of fine saves in the Leeds goal to prevent a heavier defeat.
Leeds went in at half time trailing 2-0. Dominic Poleon pulled a goal back for Leeds in the second half but it was not enough to prevent defeat.
Youngsters Zac Thompson, Nathan, and Lewis Turner who have all featured regularly with the first team during pre-season were also involved.
