*On this day in 1956, almost 50,000 fans turned up at Elland Road to watch Leeds beat Bristol Rovers 2-1 in their final home game of the season. The win was a fourth in a row for Leeds and wins in their last two away games meant they finished runners-up to Sheffield Wednesday in the Second Division and earned promotion to the top-flight.

**On this day in 1973, Leeds beat Crystal Palace 4-0 at Elland Road as they played their third of eleven games in 36-days. Leeds were to win just once more in the league, a 6-1 win over Arsenal, as fatigue, an unbelievable goalkeeping performance at Wembley and a bribed referee in Greece saw Leeds drop out of the race for the league title as well as losing the FA Cup and European Cup Winners Cup Finals.
