**On this day in 1989, Leeds United made the most important signing of Howard Wilkinson`s reign as Leeds boss. Gordon Strachan joined Leeds from across the Pennines and he proved the catalyst and inspirational captain, leading Leeds to the Second and First Division title in the space of three seasons.
