On loan Leeds United defender Darren O`Dea is hoping to go one step further with the club than he did last season whilst on loan at Ipswich Town.

The Celtic defender is on a season long loan with Leeds, having spent last season on loan with the Portman Road club, helping them to the semi-final before losing to Arsenal over two legs.

O`Dea believes the competition gives the championship sides a good opportunity to win the Carling Cup and is hoping to progress even further this time around. Speaking on Yorkshire Radio, O`Dea said, “The Carling Cup is a good opportunity. I played last season with Ipswich and we got to the semi-final. With all due respect, we did great but we played against a lot of lower league opposition to get through. It`s a chance to win a cup and not many players get to win things in their career and there is a good chance for a championship team to do well in the competition. Tuesday we will definitely go out and try and get through to the next round.”

The Republic of Ireland international has been a regular in the Leeds side since signing for the club on a season long loan from Celtic on the eve of the new season.

He is currently striking up a partnership in the centre of defence with Patrick Kisnorbo having started the season at left back.
