Leeds United boss Simon Grayson has been delighted by the form shown by Adam Clayton during pre season.

The midfielder made a slow start to his Elland Road career last season after signing from Manchester City in August.

The 22 year old made just four substitute appearances for Leeds before loan spells at Peterborough United and MK Dons in League One.

Grayson speaking on Yorkshire Radio said, “I`m looking for players who are pushing themselves forward for the first game of the season.
“I think the prime example of that is Adam Clayton.
“He`s been outstanding over pre season, both on the training pitch and in the games that he`s played. You can see the ability that he`s got and what we saw in him when we signed him last year. He is certainly staking a claim to be in the starting eleven for the Southampton game.”

Clayton featured in the League One play offs last season for MK Dons, ironically against Peterborough, who knocked them out 4-3 on aggregate at the semi final stage.
