Leeds United midfielder Eunan O`Kane played at Sheffield Wednesday at the weekend with broken ribs.

The midfielder, who has joined up with the Republic of Ireland squad for their crucial World Cup qualifiers this week, was forced to have a pain killing injection to get through the game at Hillsborough.

O`Kane, who was forced to pull out of the last Republic of Ireland squad with a groin injury, joined up with Martin O`Neill`s squad following the disappointing defeat on Sunday.

O`Neill was speaking with RTE on Tuesday and he said despite his injury, O`Kane is in contention for a place in the side, for the clashes with Moldova and Wales.

“Eunan O`Kane has cracked ribs but he played with a painkilling injection for Leeds at the weekend. We`ll see how he is.”

Fellow Leeds internationals Pontus Jansson and Ronaldo Vieira both had to pull out of their respective international squads this week through injury.

Jansson suffered a shoulder injury following a clash with his teammate Kalvin Phillips whilst Vieira, who was amongst the substitutes on Sunday, is out with a knee injury.
