LUFC McDermott – Players deserve credit

Leeds United boss Brian McDermott feels the side don`t deserve enough credit when they win a game after he watched his side make it three wins in the last four with a 3-1 win at Birmingham City.

Leeds have beaten Blackpool and Barnsley recently and they put Birmingham to the sword at St Andrews on Saturday with a dominating second half performance against the blues who have now slipped into the relegation zone.

McDermott, who it seems is still under pressure to remain as manager of the club, feels there is a mentality at Leeds that detracts from the performance of the side and prefers to reflect on the quality of the opposition.

Speaking to LUTV, McDermott said, “We have now had three wins in our last four games against sides fighting for their lives.

“I am proud of the boys, we have now won three of our last four games and I hope we get some credit.

“We have not won at Birmingham in the league for a very long time. I have never won here as a player or a manager, so there are plenty of positives to take.

“The problem we have is, we never take anything when do get a result it is always ‘the opposition is not good enough or they didn`t play well enough`. We don`t give ourselves credit at Leeds United in my opinion and I give the boys all the credit in the world after this win, they deserve it.”

Leeds made it back-to-back away wins thanks to second half goals from Matt Smith and Danny Pugh whilst Birmingham defender Paul Caddis slid the ball past his own goalkeeper for the third as Leeds completed their second double of the season.

Birmingham pulled a goal back late on thanks to Federico Macheda but his effort wasn`t going to stop Leeds recording a first win at St Andrews in the League since a Paul Hart goal was enough to record a 1-0 win in 1982.
