Leeds United boss Brian McDermott says he understands the fans expectations and he likes the challenge that lies ahead.

McDermott arrived at Elland Road in April and helped lift the side away from the fear of relegation, winning three of his five games in charge.

Fans have been growing more frustrated by the lack of activity in the transfer market and McDermott says he understands their expectations and he can feel the commitment around the place and he is looking to build a side they can enjoy coming to watch at Elland Road.

Speaking on LUTV, McDermott said, “Expectations are what they are. The fans want expectations because this is Leeds United.

“I like the challenge and I like the people at Leeds and I really feel their commitment.

“I haven`t been here very long but I really feel the commitment of the people. They really want the club to grow and get better because potentially we have an amazing club.”

McDermott is also looking to make Elland Road a fortress next season and he wants opposition players to fear stepping out onto the pitch in front of the Leeds fans. “We want people to come to Elland Road and have a real fear about playing in front of our fans and we want to build something at Elland Road.”

The Leeds players returned to training today with just over five weeks to go until the kick-off the new championship season with a home game against Brighton and Hove Albion.
