Leeds United boss Brian McDermott says summer signing Noel Hunt wants to do well for Leeds after a slow start to his Elland Road career.

Hunt arrived at Leeds in the summer from McDermott`s former club Reading but he is still looking for his first goal for the club.

He has made just four starts in Leeds seven games so far and he is yet to complete 90 minutes but McDermott is backing Hunt to do well.

Speaking in the Yorkshire Evening Post, McDermott said, “Noel is an honest guy and he is probably being down on himself too much.

“I have seen what Noel has given teams in the past. He wants to do really well for Leeds and he knows himself, especially in the last game against QPR, he didn`t do himself justice. He did really well alongside Luke Varney in the previous game at Ipswich.”

The 30-year-old striker was a regular in the Reading side for McDermott during their time together at the Madejski Stadium.

He made 41 appearances for McDermott as they won the championship title in 2012 and he was a regular in the side in the Premier League last season.
