Leeds put in an outstanding display to keep up their 100% start to the season.

It was also Leeds thirteenth straight league home win, equalling a record set by the Don Revie side of exactly fourty years ago.

The home side could have taken the lead inside sixty seconds, only a good save from Daniels denied Beckford.

Beckford went close again a few minutes later but his effort came back off the woodwork.

Leeds finally took a thoroughly deserved lead just inside fifteen minutes when Bradley Johnson reacted quickest after Daniels had made another great save to deny Becchio.

The Tranmere keeper was having an inspired afternoon and he did well to keep out efforts from Becchio and Beckford.

Leeds did double their lead just past the half hour when Beckford`s shot went in off the inside of the post.

Daniels denied Johnson a second goal close to the interval to keep Rovers just in the game.

Leeds carried on in the second half the way they had played the first, Beckford, Howson and Kisnorbo all going close.

Beckford got closer still when his effort hit the underside of the bar and came out.

Beckford wasn`t having much luck in front of goal and after a long range effort he watched agonisingly as it came out of the inside of the post.

With the England cricketers declaring at the Oval in the final Ashes test, if Leeds had a bit more luck in front of goal and the Tranmere keeper Daniels had not been in inspired form the home side could have declared with twenty minutes remaining.

Leeds were making chance after chance and Johnson, Beckford, Becchio, Marques, Howson and Kilkenny all had good chances to increase the lead.

Leeds eventually got a third when Johnson`s free kick came back off the bar and Becchio was there to finish off the rebound.

Grella almost finished off a great afternoon in injury time but his shot just went wide of the mark.

A fantastic performance from Leeds that on another day could have seen them easily hit double figures.

The win sees them and Charlton joint top with 100% records.
