New Leeds United goalkeeper Andy Lonergan says there was never a problem with what the club were offering financially.

Lonergan finally signed for Leeds on Monday after initial negotiations between the player and the club broke down earlier this month.

Media reports suggested it was over the players wage demands but Lonergan denies this, citing his ill daughters well being as holding up the deal after other clubs closer to home showed an interest.

Speaking on Yorkshire Radio, Lonergan said, “It was not a big decision football wise, just family wise, which was probably the sticking point
“As soon as I heard of the interest, which was probably six weeks ago initially, I knew where I wanted to go.
“I`ve read reports of financial differences between me and the club but that`s not the case at all.
“There was a couple of other clubs closer to home, but this is a massive club, I want to give it 100%.
“It`s well known that my daughter is not very well and she goes to Manchester Children`s Hospital, which is handy for where we live, but it`s one of those things we will have to sort out.”

Lonergan chose to go with his first preference rather than being closer to home, “As soon as I knew Leeds United were interested that was it, I wanted to go to Leeds,” he continued.

The former Preston goalkeeper is expected to get his first outing in a Leeds shirt when a reserve side travel to Bradford Park Avenue on Wednesday night.
