Leeds United defender Tom Lees made his England under 21 debut as they booked their place in the Play offs for the 2013 European finals in Israel.
Lees came on for the final thirteen minutes of the game to make his debut, after receiving a late call up to the squad by England manager Stuart Pearce last week.
England went into the game knowing a draw would be enough for them to top the group ahead of their opponents Norway but a goal by Sunderland striker Connor Wickham just before half time secured a 1-0.
The game also saw former Leeds youngster Danny Rose, who was named man of the match, play the full 90 minutes.
Adam Smith, who played three times for Leeds last season whilst on loan from Tottenham Hotspur, was an unused substitute.
England will now be involved in a two-legged play off tie in October. The winners of the ten groups plus the four best runners-up will now compete to see who joins hosts Israel in next years
England will be seeded in the draw and Norway join them as one of the best runners-up in the ten groups.
The draw will be made this Friday, September 14th.
