Young Leeds United defender Tom Lees is hoping to continue in the centre of defence after impressing in his first game there on Saturday.

After conceding three at Brighton the previous week, manager Simon Grayson made one change to his under pressure back four by moving Lees into the centre of defence from the right back position and bringing Paul Connolly back into the side.

The move worked as Leeds kept their first clean sheet of the season in the 1-0 win over Portsmouth.

Lees spent last season on loan at Bury and he was an almost ever present in the centre back position as he helped the Quakers earn promotion to League One.

The 20 year old is now hoping to stay there and strike up a good partnership with Darren O`Dea.

Speaking in the Yorkshire Evening Post , Lees said, “It`s really good to get a chance there but, as I`ve said before, I`ll play wherever the manager wants me to.
“I`ve only played one game at centre-half so I`m just hoping to stay in there for the next game. But it`s the perfect way to round off the perfect week.”

It did finish off a perfect week for Lees who signed a new deal at Leeds in the week keeping him at Elland Road until the summer of 2015.

The former academy player had only signed a new deal last Christmas, keeping him with the club until 2013 but after an impressive start to the season he has been rewarded once again.
