Leeds United youngsters came close to winning the Emirates Airlines Dubai sevens this weekend after losing in the final to Greek side Olympiacos.

The competition hosted eight professional sides, AC Milan, Arsenal, Blackburn Rovers, Bronby, Feyenoord, Glasgow Celtic, Leeds and Olympiacos.

The youngsters knocked out some prize scalps on their way to the final in a tournament that was played in temperatures over 30 degrees.

Leeds progressed through the group stage after drawing with Italian side AC Milan 1-1, beating Glasgow Celtic 4-1 and drawing with Danish side Bronby 1-1 to finish top of their group.

They then knocked out Premiership sides in the knockout stages to reach the final, firstly they saw off Blackburn Rovers 1-0 thanks to a goal from Liam Darville and then took the prize scalp of Arsenal 1-0 thanks to a goal from Will Hatfield.

Unfortunately the lost the final 2-0 to Greek side Olympiacos but could be very proud of their achievements against clubs all plying their trades in the top divisions of their respective leagues.

Leeds United under 18 coach Neil Redfearn speaking on the official website said the tournament had been a great experience and he was very proud of his players.
