Vital Leeds looks at the brief history of games between Wigan Athletic and Leeds United over the years.

The two clubs have only met on 5 previous occasions with Leeds winning 1, drawing 2 and losing 2.

Leeds only win came in a FA Cup quarter-final in the 1986/87 season. Goals from John Stiles and Micky Adams at Springfield Park ensured Leeds progressed to the semi-final in a 2-1 victory.

This will be only the second season that they have met in the league. The last was also in the championship in the 2004/05 season when Wigan completed the double with a 2-0 win at Elland Road and a 3-0 win at the JJB Stadium.

They met in the FA Cup the following season and after drawing 1-1 in the first game at Wigan, the Lancashire side progressed in the competition, winning 4-2 on penalties after the game had finished 3-3.
