This season we will be including a new feature where we will be reminiscing about games in years gone by against Leeds next opponents.

We start by looking back at two memorable games from the 1997/98 season against Derby County, when a George Graham side that wasn`t used to entertaining turned on the style in two never to be forgotten victories.

Leeds 4-3 Derby November 8th 1997 33,572

Under the leadership of George Graham Leeds weren`t renowned for entertaining football, but on this day the faithful went home having seen tremendous team spirit, to see the side come from 3-0 down after just 33 minutes to come away with all three points in a thrilling 4-3 win with an injury time winner.

Two goals from Dean Sturridge and a penalty from Aljosa Asanovic looked like taking the points back down the M1 to Derby, as some Leeds fans were already contemplating getting home early.

By half time Leeds had reduced to deficit to 3-2 thanks to goals from Rod Wallace and superb strike by Harry Kewell.

In the second half Leeds totally dominated the game as they searched for an equaliser.

With just eight minutes remaining, Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink scored from the spot to set up a grandstand finish.

Just as it looked like both sides were going to have to settle for a point Lee Bowyer stepped up to smash the ball home in front of the Kop and lift the roof off the famous old stand.

When the two sides met later that season at Pride Park both sides were battling it out for a European place with Derby above Leeds, just by goals scored with both sides level on points and having the same goal difference.

By the end of the afternoon Leeds had climbed above Derby after inflicted a 5-0 hammering on their hosts, goals from Gunnar Halle, Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink, Lee Bowyer, Harry Kewell and an own goal

Leeds finished the season in fifth place with 59 points and claimed a European place whilst Derby finished just four points behind in ninth spot.
