Old rivalries clash at Elland Road on Tuesday night when Leeds United welcome Manchester United to Elland Road for a Carling Cup Third Round clash.

It will be the 51st time that the two clubs have clashed at Elland Road.

In the previous 50, Leeds have won 15, drawn 15 and lost 20.

They have met on 14 occasions in cup competitions before with Leeds winning 3, drawing 3 and losing 8.

In the League Cup they have met on four previous occasions with Leeds losing all four.

The last time they clashed in cup competition was in January 2010 when a solitary Jermaine Beckford goal secured a 1-0 Leeds win in the FA Cup at Old Trafford.

When they last met in the League Cup, it was during the 2003/04 season.

Man United eventually won 3-2 after extra time after Leeds had led for most of the second half.

Roque Junior had given Leeds a 49th minute lead only for David Bellion to controversially equalise with just twelve minutes remaining when video replays clearly showed him in an offside position.

The game finished 1-1 in normal time and the score line remained the same through the first period of extra time.

Diego Forlan fired the visitors ahead only for unlikely goal hero Roque Junior to score his second of the evening for Leeds to equalise with six minutes remaining.

The game looked to be heading for penalties when Eric Djemba-Djemba scored the winner for the visitors with three minutes remaining.

Leeds at the time were full of household names under Peter Reid, who all played in this game, like Salomon Olembe, Lamine Sakho, Didier Domi, Cyril Chapuis and Zoumana Camara.
