With just one week to go until the start of the new season Leeds United finally made their third signing of the summer during the last week.

The long running Andy Lonergan saga finally ended with the goalkeeper signing a three-year deal from Preston North End.

Lonergan was first linked with Leeds four weeks ago.

The signing of a second goalkeeper finally ended the clubs rumours with a number of goalkeepers this summer.

As well as being linked and signing Paul Rachubka and Andy Lonergan, Leeds have been linked with Keiren Westwood, Jason Brown, Alex Smithies, Fraser Forster, Lee Grant, Tomasz Kuszczak, Iain Turner, Jerzy Dudek, Chris Maxwell and David Stockdale during the close season.

At the start of the week, it was unsure as to whether it would be Stockdale or Lonergan signing for Leeds, with Stockdale eventually signing for Ipswich Town.

Leeds have been linked with other players this week who have gone on to sign for someone else.

Manchester City midfielder Michael Johnson has been linked with Leeds since the New Year but he chose to join Leicester City earlier this week.

Stoke City defender Carl Dickinson was linked with Leeds. The left back was one of Simon Grayson`s first loan signings at the club in 2009 but he signed for Watford on Friday after again being linked with a move to Elland Road.

With chairman Ken Bates indicating that the club were in talks with two midfielders during a radio interview in the week, Sheffield United duo Stephen Quinn and Nick Montgomery have once again been linked with a move to Leeds.

Another midfielder who has seen his name linked with Leeds is Stoke midfielder Tom Soares.

The 25 year old has struggled to get into the Stoke side since signing from Crystal Palace in 2008 and he has spent time out on loan at both Charlton Athletic and Sheffield Wednesday.

Two players continue to dominate the media pages with moves away from Elland Road.
The Sunday Mirror reported that nine clubs were chasing Max Gradel.

Robert Snodgrass is still being linked with Wigan Athletic and with the Premier League side selling Charles N`Zogbia at the end of the week they may now test Leeds resolve.

Just one week to go now until the season starts. Will we see any more players come through the door, or will it all once again just be paper talk?
