Leeds United have reported today that Peter Sweeney has departed from the club after terminating his contract through mutual consent.

The midfielder has been under contract at Leeds for the last 18 months.

Sweeney whose contract expired at the end of next season played 8 games in the second half of this season at Grimsby Town and played a big part in keeping them in the football league. Grimsby boss Mike Newell told the clubs official website ”I know he enjoyed his time here. It was a successful time. If you look at the rest of the season, those last 12 or so games were our most successful.”

Leeds Manager Simon Grayson told the official site ‘Sween`s is at the stage
of his career where he needs to play regular football and I can’t guarantee him that here. He goes with our best wishes.’

Sweeney is expected to sign with Grimsby Town this summer after previous reports that The Mariners were interested in signing him.
