Leeds United have signed young Aston Villa defender Shane Lowry on loan until March 13th.

The 20 year old has made two senior appearances for the Premiership club, making his debut in the Europa League earlier this season.

With two Australian internationals already at the club in Patrick Kisnorbo and Neil Kilkenny he will be hoping that the loan spell could help him catch the eye of the Australian national coach ahead of the World Cup finals this summer.

He`s yet to represent Australia, he actually represented the Republic of Ireland at both under 17 and 19 level through his Irish parentage.

Lowry was born in Perth, and chose to make himself available for Australia instead of the Republic of Ireland at full international level.

Lowry can play at either left back or in the centre of defence and goes straight into the squad for today`s game with Colchester.

He is ineligible for the midweek FA Cup replay with Spurs but can play in the second leg of the Johnstone`s Paint Trophy Northern final second leg at Carlisle next month.
