Leeds United have released leading goalscorer Jermaine Beckford.

The 26 year olds contract ran out this summer and after failing to agree new terms with Leeds over the course of the season, he`s been released so that he can find a new club.

The former Wealdstone player joined Leeds in 2006 and proved to be prolific during his time with the club scoring 85 goals in 149 appearances.

In his three full seasons of regular first team football, he`s gone through the 20 goal barrier in each one, scoring 20 in the 2007/08 season, 34 in 2008/09 and 31 in 2009/10.

He will go down in Elland Road folklore as the man who scored the only goal of the game when Leeds recorded their first win at Old Trafford against Manchester United since 1981 when he scored in the FA Cup third round in January this year.

Beckford also scored the goal that secured Leeds promotion on the final day of the season against Bristol Rovers earlier this month.

Beckford has been strongly linked with a move to Premiership side Everton in the past few months and he is now free to sign for whoever he likes.
