The Sun newspaper are reporting today that Leeds United are going to make a bid to bring back former player Max Gradel in January.

They report that Leeds boss Neil Warnock is ready to switch is attention to The Ivory Coast international if they fail to land Jerome Thomas, who is currently on loan at Elland Road from Premier League side West Bromwich Albion.

Gradel made 84 appearances for Leeds netting 25 times before signing for French Ligue 1 side St Etienne in the summer of 2011 after he said he wanted to be closer to his family.

He spent eighteen months at Elland Road after initially signing from Leicester City on loan in October 2009.

His move became permanent the following January and he helped Leeds to promotion from League One despite being sent off on the crucial final day of the season win over Bristol Rovers.

The 25-year-old scooped the Player of the Year award in Leeds first season in the Championship as he netted 18 goals for the club as they just missed out on the play-offs.

He has been a regular in the St Etienne side since moving to France, making 45 appearances in the league.

Gradel has played in all 16 league games this season as St Etienne lie fourth in the Ligue 1 table.
