LUFC – Leeds humbled in Cup

Leeds United were embarrassed in the FA Cup by non league Histon Town in atrocious conditions at the Glass World stadium.

Leeds brought in Frazer Richardson, Rui Marques and Alan Sheehan at the back. David Prutton was dropped after a couple of good League appearances so that Snodgrass and Robinson could support Becchio up front.

The home side were the better team throughout the first half and you would have wondered which side was in League One and which was in the Conference?

Becchio missed Leeds only decent chance of the half when his shot went well over when in a good position.

The only goal of the game came just before half time when Michalik allowed Histon defender Matt Langston to get on the end of a corner and steered the ball into the net.

You would have thought this would have woke Leeds up but Histon continued to take the game to Leeds for the rest of the half.

Leeds went in at half time without mustering a shot on target and surely it could only get better?

It took until about the hour mark before Leeds realised they were in a cup tie and losing 1-0, Becchio wasted a golden opportunity to equalise when blazing wide from a good position.

This did seem to wake Leeds up and Michalik came within a post of equalising when his effort from the edge of the area cannoned back off the post.

Leeds were now applying all the pressure but without any reward whilst Danny Wright and Jack Midson did a good job of chasing and harassing the Leeds defence whenever the ball came over the half way line for Histon.

Leeds afternoon was summed up late on when Michalik`s stinging volley was acrobatically cleared off the line by Murray.

The full time whistle went to the delight of all the Histon fans and players and I am sure all the non Leeds watching fans around the country!

Histon deserved their victory for their hard work and battling display whilst it took Leeds sixty minutes to get into the cup tie.

There are no excuses now for Leeds and the League is their one and only priority.
Over the last few month`s though Leeds performances have dipped alarmingly and unless Gary McAllister stops the slide quickly we will be looking at a mid table finish at best.

Histon`s reward for beating Leeds is another home tie; this time against Championship side Swansea City.

Good luck for the next round Histon Town and well played.
