Aidy White looks set to miss around eight weeks after scans revealed he has suffered a fracture to his foot.
Leeds head coach David Hockaday was hoping that White, who was stretchered off at Chesterfield last weekend, would only be out for a few weeks but he has been dealt a blow with the news he is expected to be out until October.
White looked to be in the plans of Hockaday this season after a frustrating season under Brian McDermott last term.
The 23-year-old made just three appearances in the first three months of last season before being loaned out to League One side Sheffield United.
His loan was cut short over the festive period after he suffered an ankle injury before eventually returning to the Leeds first team towards the end of March.
White did feature in eight of the last nine league games and he was hoping to build on his end of season form under new coach David Hockaday.
Midfielder Alex Mowatt missed the win over Dundee United with a thigh strain but it is hoped he will return to training in the week and be available for the trip to Millwall next Saturday as Leeds kick off their championship season.
