Leeds United are hoping to sort out a deal to bring trialist Mikael Forssell to Elland Road according to chairman Ken Bates.

The striker spent two weeks on trial with Leeds before joining up with Finland for international duty at the end of August.

Forssell played for Bates previously during their time at Chelsea and the experienced striker wants to sign for Leeds according to Bates.

Bates speaking on Yorkshire Radio said, “We`re negotiating to sign Mikael Forssell. He`s a very good player.
“I had him (at Chelsea) when he made his debut at 17 and scored two goals. He`s 30 so he`s still young, footballer-wise. He`s fit, he`s strong, he`s big and he wants to play in England.
“He`s turned down a chance to go to Greece and he wants to play for us. We`re hoping we can tie that one down.”

The 30-year-old spent last season in the German Bundesliga with Hannover96 before being released at the end of last season.

Forssell is vastly experienced having played in England with Chelsea, Birmingham City and Crystal Palace.

He is also an experienced international with Finland, netting 26 times in almost 80 appearances and he played in both their Euro 2013 qualifiers last week against Moldova and Holland, scoring against Moldova.
