Leeds United are close to announcing Barnsley boss Paul Heckingbottom as the replacement for Thomas Christiansen.

Heckingbotton only signed a new deal at Oakwell on Friday but Leeds have triggered a release clause in the deal allowing them to talk to the former defender who has been in charge at Barnsley since 2016.

The Barnsley boss is meeting with Leeds chiefs this evening to conclude a deal to bring him to Elland Road.

The 40-year-old led Barnsley to promotion from League One in 2016 as well as winning the Johnstone`s Paint Trophy. Barnsley were in the relegation places when Heckingbottom took over before the eventually won promotion via the play-offs.

In their first season in the Championship, Barnsley finished 14th following a poor run in the second half of the season after the club sold Sam Winnall, James Bree and Conor Hourihane in the January transfer window having already lost Marley Watkins and Alfie Mawson the previous summer.

Heckingbottom is regarded as one of the most promising coaches in the Football League and he has already turned down approaches from Sunderland and Nottingham Forest this season.

  • Clough lasted 44 days and he HATED LEEDS, how long will Heckingbottom last, and he HATES LEEDS.
Leeds are showing no ambition with this appointment, Strachan or Silva for me.
Seems like Mr Radz, Mr Orta and the rest of the Leeds board want to make Leeds a laughing stock, firstly with the CREST, secondly by not sacking Mr Orta before TC and thirdly by wanting to sign a man who has only won one of his last sixteen games in charge, I will always support Leeds but I would just like the people in power to ask the fans opinion on what they want, those in power seem to forget that so far this season there has always been 30,000+ roaring them on, but if they keep choosing to ignore fans there will only be 20,000+ by the end of the season.
