On what is probably the busiest day of football in Leeds history, Vital Leeds United looks back at the clubs record on Boxing Day.

Leeds have played 71times on Boxing Day and have won 27, lost 26 and drawn 18.

Their first ever Boxing Day encounter came in 1921 when they drew 1-1 at Elland Road with Yorkshire neighbours, The Wednesday (Sheffield Wednesday) with Leeds goal coming from Jack Swann.

Leeds first ever win came in 1923 when they beat Oldham Athletic 5-0 at home. Swann was again amongst the goals for Leeds scoring twice and there was also two goals for Percy Whipp and one for Joe Richmond.

Since 1921 Leeds have played on most Boxing Day`s, with the only exceptions being,1926, 1937, the war years between 1939-45, 1948, 1954, 1960, 1962, 1965, 1971, 1976, 1981,1993 and 1995.

Leeds have a good record since the new millennium, losing just two of their eleven games. They are unbeaten in their last four, although three of these have been draws.

Six of these games have come against opposition from the Northeast.

Leeds first opponents of the new millennium were Newcastle United at St James` Park. Despite an early goal from Olivier Dacourt, Leeds lost 2-1with Nolberto Solano and Clarence Acuna both scoring inside the final five minutes of the first half.

Sunderland have been Leeds opponent on three occasions, with the games coming between 2002 and 2006.

In more recent years, Leeds have faced Hartlepool United twice and Leicester City twice.

Last season, Leeds let a two goal lead slip at Leicester. Max Gradel and Robert Snodgrass looked like claiming all three points for Leeds but goals from Paul Gallagher and Andy King inside the final twenty minutes salvaged a point for the foxes.

Leeds have only met this year`s opponents, Derby once previously on Boxing Day.

That meeting came in 1929 when Derby won 3-0 at the Baseball Ground.
