Leeds United failed to get past the group stage in Saturday`s Yorkshire Masters.

The tournament which is played between ex players of each club who are a minimum of 35 years of age.


The six side Yorkshire Masters was split into two groups with Leeds United, Barnsley and Hull City in group 1 and Doncaster Rovers, Sheffield United and Sheffield Wednesday in group 2.
The winners of each group would meet in the final.

Barnsley and Hull City kicked the night off in Leeds group with Barnsley winning 2-1.

Doncaster Rovers and Sheffield Wednesday played the first game in group 2 with the Owls winning comprehensively 5-2.

Leeds then kicked off their tournament and twice came from behind to draw 2-2 with Hull City.
Both Leeds goals came from former youth and reserve team player Godwin Douglas.

Back into Group 2 and Doncaster got their first win with a goal in the last few seconds to beat Sheffield United 3-2.

The last game in group 1 saw Leeds need a victory over Barnsley to progress to the final.

It wasn`t to be for United despite taking an early lead through a rather ‘rotund` Clyde Wijnhard.
Leeds soon found themselves 2-1 before Scott Sellars gave Leeds hope of progression.
Barnsley once again took the lead and held onto a 3-2 victory to book their place in the final.

Sheffield Wednesday who already looked odds on favourites to progress made easy work of city neighbours United with a 4-1 victory in the final group match.

In a very tight final between Barnsley and Sheffield Wednesday the scores finished 2-2.
The champions were decided by a penalty shoot out, Efan Ekoku missed the only penalty for Wednesday to hand the title to Barnsley.
