Leeds United boss Neil Warnock says he remains optimistic with the new contracts offered to four of his key players at the club.
Aidy White, Robert Snodgrass, Adam Clayton and Ross McCormack are all players that Warnock wants to tie to the club as he aims to make Leeds strong contenders for promotion next season.
Warnock had already made formal offers to White, Snodgrass and Clayton and he intends to sit down with McCormack and his agents this week.
The Leeds boss says he has been busy working on his summer recruitment this week but says he expects to know one way or the other in the next few weeks regarding the future of the four players.
Speaking at his weekly press conference, Warnock said, “I will be doing the retained list next Wednesday. It will probably be the following week. I have too much on with recruitment this week. I have made that a priority
“The lads know the offers that they have got. I have still to speak to Ross McCormack`s people. I have not yet been able to formalise an offer to Ross but that will be coming this week.”
Youngster Aidy White is out of contract this summer and a free agent and he will be able to leave Leeds if he turns down the offer of a new contract, although Leeds will receive a payment due to the player`s age.
Snodgrass, Clayton and McCormack all have one year remaining on their current contracts with the club and Warnock has expressed his desire to build the squad around captain Snodgrass next season by making him an offer to make him the highest paid player at the club.
Warnock still feels optimistic that the players will commit to Leeds having offered them what he thinks is a decent contract. “All the other players have had theirs and I will be talking to them. Realistically, we want to offer the players decent contracts and I believe they are. If they turn them down then we will have to look at them a different way but at the moment I am optimistic,” added Warnock.
Who do you think will still be with Leeds next season of the four players offered new deals?
